Matthew J. Eckel is an Associate at Drago + Toscano, LLP. Matt represents clients in a wide range of areas, including zoning, licensing, and criminal defense.
Before joining the firm, Matt worked as a law clerk at the Boston Zoning Board of Appeal, where he attended hearings to record details and outcomes of each appeal, researched and drafted final zoning decisions, and communicated with petitioners and attorneys regarding appeals. Matt also spent a summer as a judicial intern to the Honorable Bruce R. Henry at Middlesex Superior Court. His principal duties involved conducting legal research and drafting legal memoranda, reviewing and editing judicial orders and opinions, and attending various judicial proceedings, including arraignments and criminal and civil trials.
Matt graduated cum laude from Suffolk University Law School, where he was in the top 11% of his class. While at Suffolk, Matt was a member of Suffolk Law’s Rehnquist Inn Chapter of Phil Delta Phi, the Legal Honor Fraternity. Matt made Dean’s List each year he attended Suffolk and received the Suffolk University Law School Jurisprudence Award in Criminal Law, which is awarded to the person receiving the highest grade in a law school section. Matt was also a member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Associations.
Prior to Suffolk, Matt graduated cum laude from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Matt was admitted into the Isenberg School of Management and graduated with a B.S. in Sport Management. Matt made Dean’s List each year at UMass and was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Fraternity and the Golden Key Honors Society. Matt was also the starting outside center on the University of Massachusetts, Amherst’s Men’s Rugby Team.
